Khazant: Jericho Reach Sector. Home of the Swords of Dawn Adeptus Astartes

Khazant (Death World) - This former Imperial world became a renowned corsair stronghold, its oppressed population enslaved to one warlord or another prior to the outset of the Achilus Crusade. The Imperial forces faced massive organised resistance on the heavily contested planet, with control swinging back and forth multiple times.

Designated by the Lord Guilliman following the declaration of the ending of the Indomitus Crusade as the new homeworld to a chapter of Primaris class Astartes, the brothers that would become known as the Swords of Dawn were dispatched to claim the world once and for all, securing its inclusion within the Imperium of Man by dint of becoming the base of operations of a thousand of the galaxies greatest soldiers.

Notable features:

City of Trials

Home of the ruling council in its early years, the City of Trials changed hands many times during the Achilus Crusade, its infrastructure paying the price for being the location of so many devastating battles. Now completely uninhabitable by humans, it is home to many lethal predators amongst its deadly rad-zones, alchemical spills and open toxic lakes, many of them due to its occupation in the latter years of the Achilus Crusade by members of the Heretic Astartes that call themselves The Purge. It is now the site of the final trials of aspirants to the Swords of Dawn, who must survive its environs and battle from one side to the other, traversing 73 miles of ruins, traps, and Fireclaw hunting grounds with only the training garments they enter with, a simple combat knife and their wits.

Basilica Aquilus

Formerly the seat of the Ministorum on Khazant, the Basilica Aquilus is a vast cathedral celebrating the glory of the Emperor of Mankind and is constructed of green marble, imported at vast expense from Devlan on the Eastern Fringe prior to its invasion by Hive Fleet Kraken.

Unfortunately, the Basilica was also the site of fierce fighting during the Achilus Crusade and the re-taking of Khazant, and is currently a shattered ruin. The Ministorum however has pledged itself to the rebuilding of the Cathedral, and the Swords of Dawn have offered the services of Talwar Company to maintain a permanent guardian presence at the site until such time as the rebuilding project is complete.

The Promethium wells of The Barren Steppes

The solitary southern hemisphereof Khazant is an arid, dry place, devoid of shelter or refuge. This wasteland is home to a region called the Barren Steppes where the vast mineral wells of Promethium gain direct surface access. Such accesses are fraught with danger however, as new accesses are created in an unpredictable fashion through landfalls and entire sections of desert collapsing in the sub-surface. Thankfully, the immediate vicinity of the wells seems to be relatively secure allowing for extraction equipment to be sited to make use of this natural resource. Such facilities are an inhospitable place to dwell however, with automated and heavily modified Mechanicus forces from teh allied Forgeworld of Exxon Ignis operating the extraction equipment, guarded by squads of Sicaran Ruststalkers and Kastelan Robots, with patrols of Ironstrider Balistarii and Skitarii Rangers monitoring the area.

The Ritau Mountain Range

The Ritau Mountains occupy the entire northern polar region of Khazant, and were the site of vast engineering works upon the settling of the planet by the Swords of Dawn. The vast resources of the Adeptus Mechanicus were brought to bear, hollowing out much of the mountain range themselves, burying massive orbital defence lasers into the heart of the world, powered by immense geothermal reactors ensuring that the defences would never run out of power so long as the world was capable of sustaining life. Although the Astartes learned from the catastrophe at Rynn’s World, and built their fortress monastery well away from the power relays and magma lakes serving the world’s defences, the installation is anything but defenceless, and the tenth company spends significant time both manning the defences and training the planetary defence levy that guards the only navigable routes into the mountains.
